Genicel – Combines Traffic safety with environmental benefits
Traffic safety combined with environmental benefits: that’s achievable with Genicel! Initially invented by Profiltra, but nowadays produced and processed by the manufacturer CFF. This powerful product consists of cellulose fibers as its core, enriched with targeted additives such as bitumen-modifying agents, depending on the product type. This product is utilized worldwide in the production of Stone Mastic Asphalt, for extra durable asphalt binding layers and various high-quality asphalt mixtures.
We take pride in the fact that our Genicel is now part of a recipe used by Department of Waterways and Public Works!
They incorporated Genicel into a new asphalt layer in the tunnel sections near Roermond on the A73 this summer. This new asphalt layer is lighter grey in color, offering many advantages:
Traffic Safety: The use of Genicel in grey asphalt leads to improved traffic safety. The asphalt reflects light, enhancing visibility for drivers, thus contributing to reducing traffic accidents. Energy Savings: Due to the reflective effect of the asphalt, it’s possible to dim the public lighting in tunnels, leading to significant energy savings (up to 50% reduction). This not only contributes to energy conservation but can also reduce the costs of public lighting. Temperature Reduction: Lighter-colored asphalt retains less heat, which can help lower average temperatures on roads. This is particularly relevant considering the expected rise in temperatures in the coming decades.
In summary, the use of Genicel is a promising innovation that contributes to both traffic safety and energy savings on Dutch roads.
